2008 Snipers Cup Champions

Wilson Bullets

What two seasons of tanking and sitting beside Rick will do for a team.  The Bullets have prevailed against the Vanguard (unofficial score of 37-29) to capture the 2008 Snipers Cup.  The Bullets knocked off the Rowdy Kilts and in dramatic fashion, with an Iginla hat trick in the final game of that week, beat the Shrubdogs to move into the finals.  That Stoll sub gaff will go down in SCHL infamy.  Bullets GM, Lorne Wilson, must be pretty pleased.  His team is riddled with youngsters and in its first season with this new assembled squad they've captured the championship.  Unable to get secondary scoring, along with an injured Getzlaf, the Vanguard fell short.  After rattling off six straight wins to crawl into the post season, the knocked out the Barracudas, Gryphons and Flash before coming up short.  The finals featured two teams with spotty goal tenders; however goal tending was probably both teams' strongest point.  In any event, the league would like to congratulate the Wilson Bullets on their championship and the Vangard making yet another SCHL finals entertaining.

Another season is in the books, 2009-2010 will mark a 10 year anniversary of the SCHL, until then so long and good night from the SCHL headquarters..

Your 2008 SCHL Finalists
29-37
27-33
WG Race: Tycoons 767, Flash 729, Jawas 723, Rowdy Kilts 713, Gryphons 705

Day 1: Kane with two points and Toews with one...Coburn replies...
Day 2: Pretty quiet on the night, big new on the night though is Iginla/Langkow getting blanked..
Day 3: The Bullets are propelled with a MAF SO and 5 from Iggy/Langkow, the Vanguard on the other hand lay a belated Easter egg...lots of hockey left, but the tone has been set by the Bullets...
Day 4: The Vanguard pick up 1 point on the Bullets, which could have been a lot more if not for Pisani's 3rd period goal...
Day 5: The Vanguard get whooped 7-2 on the night, with the Bullets only have two guys going...
Day 6: Backstrom leads the charge back into the match with a SO...mammoth...
Day 7: Weird night in the stats..both teams shat the bed...
Day 8: The Bullets rack up another 9 points, but Langkow is injured now...Getzlaf plays his lone game on the week, but pulls home two assists...
Day 9: All quiet tonight...the sun is slowly setting on the Vanguard...
Day 10: That's all she wrote...the Bullets are the 2008 Snipers Cup Champions..

After a remarkable come back, the Bullets enter their second SCHL finals, while the Vanguard enter their first.  All time the Vanguard are 5-2 versus the Bullets.  Both teams in recent memory have been marred in mediocrity.  The Bullets, as everyone knows, have spent the last two years overhauling their squad, and I don't even think GM Wilson could have imagined dividends this quickly.  The Vanguard have spent the better part of 5 years getting to this point...accumulating studs such as Staal, Getzlaf, Dion and Frolov.  The Vanguard have knocked out some pretty important teams on their road to the finals, which have included a 39-33 win over the Gryphons and a 41-23 win over the Flash.  The Bullets have their own share of carnage, after beat the Rowdy Kilts and storming back to tie the Shrubs on Iginla's heroics.  The teams stack up pretty well and they are 6th and 7th in the WG race respectively.  Both teams are led by big time goal men.  The Vanguard have been the hottest team of late with a league high 41 points last week.  T

The 7th SCHL Champion and close to $700 is on the line over these next ten days, and regardless of the outcome the league will be ruled by a gracious and respectable GM.  Good luck gentlemen and remember some teams will never make their way to the finals and it's taken you two the better part of a decade to get here...so enjoy it.

WG race: Tycoons 728, Flash 699, Jawas 673, Rowdy Kilts 662, Gryphons 657

Day 1 story: The Vanguard get the party started with Sykora's 4 points, the Bullets set the tone early and put the Shrubs on their ass...
Day 2 story: A quiet night with only Vanguard players playing, Backstrom picks up two points...
Day 3 story: The Bullets lay a monster egg, Flash tie it up but cost them valuable man games...
Day 4 story: Nabby's shootout win over the Vanguard's Backstrom may have saved the Flash's week...JPom's 4 huge points lead the charge for the Shrubs in tieing their week.
Day 5 story: The Vanguard take a strangle hold on their match, while the Shrubs and Bullets exchange blows leaving their match tittering with a weekend showdown...
Day 7 story: With a four point lead can the Shrubs hold on against a 9-5 disadvantage, down by 7 and with no MM or goalie, the Flash are looking at climbing Mount Everest this Saturday...

27-41

Both teams make their inaugural appearance to the Frozen Four.  The Vanguard are rolling after unseating the Gryphons...Backstrom with late Saturday goose to seal the deal.  The Vanguard, after years of mediocrity, finally have put it together and enter the Frozen Four has one of the hottest teams around...now they'll have to it to the test against the veteran Flash.  The PM winners, Flash, have put together another solid campaign and have to be considered the favourites to win it all at this point.  Atlanta goes 4 times, NYR go three times, while TBay goes three times and Anaheim goes three times.  So the Flash have 1 extra MM game and both goalie go 4 times.  The Flash enter this match with a 4 point head start, but the Vanguard have proven they have the horses to over come diversity.  Can the Flash move one step closer to becoming the 2nd team to win 2 SCHL crowns or can the Vanguard end years of mediocrity and secure a seat in the finals?

28-28
It's safe to say these two elephant hunters did the SCHL a favour by knocking out the Kilts and the Tycoons.  Now both teams enter uncharted territory...like a new level in a video game.  The Shrubs have likes of Pominville and St.  Louis cooking and the Bullets have Iggy cooking. Just ask the Kilts about him.  Both teams have returned to the post season from two straight DNQ seasons, so already this season has to be considered a success.  The Shrubs will be looking to capitalize on their advantage on D to win this match, while the Bullets will need their forward depth to make up an short fall they may have at the point.  The Flames go four times and the Kings go three, while the Sens and Lightning go three./.so the Bullets have a 1 game advantage.   Both goalies are weak and who knows if they even start in any of their games this week.  The Bullets have pissed of a lot of teams for their style of rebuilding, can they make the next step and head to the finals giving everyone the finger on the way or can the Shrubdogs back up all their trash talk and validate their 1998 championship by moving one step closer to the holy grail??

SCHL Quarter-Finals
Day 1 story: Could NB's blunder send the Tycoons to their misery?
Day 2 story: Dion racks up three points to counter Boyes' two points, the Bullets throw up a 7-1 score on the night over the Kilts...
Day 3 story: Lecavs makes good with being a GM, Tycoons continue their slump, Brahmas claw back into their match...
Day 4 story: Vanguard make a real dent 9 pts, the Tycoons tie things up with the Shrubs and the Bullets don't strike while the iron is hot...
Day 5 story: The Kilts put the moves on and are within striking distance of the Bullets & and Kovalchuk & Gerber exchange monster nights...
Day 6 story: The Tycoons are nearly packing their bags, the Flash open things up a bit, the Bullets will have to dig their heels in...
Day 7 story: The Shrubs
and Bullets unseat the Tycoons and Rowdy Kilts, Flash hang on for the easy w and the Vanguard get their 1st SO in a stone age to send the Gryphons packing...

30-19
"
Bin Laden v Sin Subbing"
The PM winners will have to drop the mitts with the Elephant Hunters, the Brahmas.  The Brahmas unseated one of the hottest teams in the SCHL 25-19 after over coming a four point head start.  the Brahmas will now start the correct goalie and will be not be taken lightly by the Flash.  The Flash, having been knocked out last year in th 2nd round by the 79ers, will be looking to get to the Frozen Four for the 1st time...the 2004 Champs are back in the saddle and will be a team to be reckoned with .  Until they're eliminated, the Flash will be one of three heavy favourites left in the tourney.

25-31
"Gryphon v Griffin"
For much of the season the Gryphons looked unstoppable.  Stasny was the new Gretz at the start of the year, Heatley was poised for another 50 goal campaign; however, now they're tittering on losing their goalie to a backup and have tumbled down the WG race.  The Gryphons will be hoping to return Frozen Four once more, but will have to contend with the up and coming Vanguard.  The Vanguard for the 2nd straight season will be quarter-finals after a convincing with over the Barracudas.  Hoping that it's not just another trip to the 2nd round, the Vanguard have swapped MM from Staal and Lecavs to Getz and Lecavs, hoping to take advantage of man games.  The Vanguard are young, but they do have enough juice in the tank to push any team to the brink.

29-21
"Up and coming v SCHL Staple"
Talk about a beauty match here folks.  If you're new to the SCHL, then you need to know these teams have had their fair share of epic SCHL post season battles in the past.  In the Bullets last two post season runs the Rowdy Kilts have sent them home in a body bag..2003 and 2004, but prior to that the Bullets sent the Kilts to course in 2001 after a monumental 20 point performance from Pavel Bure.  And in recent years, last year the Bullets, with  a spotty AHL team threw up 50+ points to beat the Kilts and to ensure that the Kilts wouldn't win the Premier Division.  Now for this yera, the Kilts are once again a top team and the Bullets are an upcoming team...this will play out to be another classic in the SCHL.

  22-24

"A battle of two SCHL legends"
The Shrubs are on the reunion tour this post season.  Now they clash against the Tycoons, a rematch of the 1999 SC finals.  The Shrubdogs bounced Heartbreakers last round and will now be up against the team that stole their bye week away from them in week 21. The Tycoons enter the week a top the WG race and are coming off a monster 44 point week...The Shrubs will be hoping that the Tycoons have already peaked and would love to see their name int he Frozen Four.

..and it begins: Round 1
Updated int Day 7, though all games except the Canucks' game

As requested by the Jawas..bye teams: Flash 27, Gryphons 27, Bullets 30, Tycoons 43

Day 1 story: Coburn and Straka add needed depth points for the Vanguard...
Day 2 story:
Jumbo Joe tallies 6 for the 79ers...
Day 3 story: Night of the egg laying...
Day 4 story: The Vanguard pick up 6 points on the Barracudas extending their lead to 10...
Day 5 story: The 79ers fail to capitalize on a MM game, the Heartbreakers are pushed to the brink and the Barracudas are running on fumes...oh and ya the Sedins finally wake up...
Day 6 story: The Barracudas claw back into the match, the Kilts keep pace with the 79ers making it almost impissoble for them to win, HB fail to make up ground with another egg...

22-26
Both teams enter their 4th campaign for the Snipers Cup. The Jawas (3rd in points), having never won in the post season, enter this post season one of the hottest clubs in the league rattling off 8 straight wins to end the season. The Brahmas (8th in points) on the other hand locked horns with the Tycoons and lost 30-29 in the final week of the post season after some spotty subbing (Aucoin over Zidlicky?). Because of that they'll be in tough this week and will have to face the Jawas. How far can Savard take the Brahmas and can the Jawas finally get over the hump and move on to the second round?

24-19
This is truly a classic battle. Clash of the 1999 finalists. Now it's 9 years later and it is two Bronze division foes. This will be both teams first appearance since the 2003-2004 season. The Heartbreakers had to go 4-0-1 in their last 5 just to squeak into the post season as a wild card. Having only lost twice and sporting an overall post season record of 13-2, the Heartbreakers will be the focus of many fans. Can they capture their old magic and unseat the Bronze division champions? The Shrubdogs, marred in slumps, had the bye in their grasp and let it slip. St Louis and Spezza are due to bust out; however, but that bye would be a relief and now they must go up against the historic Heartbreakers.

  29-22

I bet no one would have predicted this first round match up. A rematch of last year's finals. We all know how that played out. The 79ers enter this post season a hospital room with injuries to Gagne, Sid, Lidstrom..etc. They have gotten Sakic back and he's been names their new goal man. The Kilts have all their team together after running through their own rough patch of injuries. This should be interesting to watch, but the 79ers will need a miracle if they hope to repeat

16-25

The Barracudas (13th in points) closed out the season with 7 straight wins, while the Vanguard (6th in points) closed out the seasons with 6 straight wins. For much of the season the Barracudas were considered an easy opponent on the schedule. They had a slumping goal man, a spotty assist man and two goalies battling for the same net. Fast forward, Vanek has emerged as a quality goal man, Richards is on a high flying Stars team and Price and Huet are no longer on the same team. The Vanguard hope to build off their 2nd round advancement from last season. Their team is slowly coming together; guys like Staal and Lecavs are some of the best young bucks to have in the game. The Barracudas will need to get monster productions fro their big guns, as the Vanguard have the depth tilted in their direction. Both teams are very inconsistent, but can get on a hot streak and can knock off any team in the playoffs.

The Snipers Cup Playoffs..What's all the Fuss?

I wrote it quick and I guarantee it's riddled with grammar errors and spelling errors, but it's better than a kick in the face. Here's a look back from what I remember over the years in each playoffs and a look towards this year's SCHL post season finale!

Well another season is pretty much complete, seems like only yesterday we were drafting. Does time ever fly? This will be our ninth SCHL playoff and third with the new format. So who will join the ranks as the SCHL Champions?

Let's look back before setting the table on this year's run to the Holy Grail.

1999 Playoffs: The favoured Tycoons laid one of the biggest eggs in SCHL history by posting 18 points in two weeks, as the Heartbreakers cruised to victory. No one knew this was a sign of the times. Roy was incredible down the stretch earning himself the Patrick Roy Award. (Odd that the name of the award is after himself.)

The Shrubs, came in second, but had to battle in one of the best matches ever that year in SCHL post season history…it was against the Goon Snipers (now Barracudas). With an Osgood SO on the final night, and with the help of home ice, the Shrubs were propelled to victory. The Shrubs believe it or not were a hot commodity back then. Coming of a convincing SC victory in 1998 and a 2nd place showing, they were unstoppable.

I'll never forget the fit the Stunners had when they lost to the Millionaires. The Millionaires were stacked with Stars (Dallas that is). Hull, Belfour, Zubov...and in round 1 the Stunners had the home ice advantage, but faced the Millionaires and the Dallas Stars 4 times! They got their lunch served to them and wrote a full out essay why "this is bullshit!"

And this was the only year the Kilts did not qualify for the post season.

2000 Playoffs: In convincing fashion once again the Heartbreakers cruised to victory. These playoffs will always be foggy to me, as Ashley and I were in Australia and we both barely followed it. All I knew was Pavel Bure turned into god and knocked out the Tycoons (stupid Yashin holding out). I do remember this being a coming out party for the Storm. The Gryphons came outa the gates that year like a house on fire and won the PM Award; however, sputtered as only the Gryphons can do and stumbled into the post season. They made it to the finals, but shit the bed posting 12 points.

2001 Playoffs: The league's third post season produced a new Champion, the Johnston Tycoons. The Tycoons became the first team to have won both the WG and the SC. The Tycoons slumped for most of the season, but when Mario Lemieux returned to the Pens Jagr went ballistic and in the final 2 months the Tycoons went ape shit, scorching up the WG race and posting a record 63 points in a 10 day finals.

I remember an overall sigh of relief when the Bullets knocked out the Heartbreakers in round 2. Finally they had lost in the post season. Up to that point they were 7-0! I mean we put this league together to have fun and spread it around, yet two seasons in and the same champ. Needless to say, I was glad to see them lose.

Pavel Bure has a monumental week against the Kilts, posting 20 points; as the Bullets went on to win and then beat the Heartbreakers before heading to the finals. The Hammerheads made it to the finals and can thank two home ice wins, they beat the Blitzkrieg 27-28 and the Stunners 33-34.

2002 Playoffs: The Heartbreakers were once again crowned the Champs. Unreal. 3 times in 4 years...yawn. They also won the WG, becoming the first team to win both major awards in the same season. It was really a remarkable season for the HB Sauce. All the wispers about the Heartbreaks 1st and 2nd rings being a fluke were validated on this run. The WG and SC, but more importantly a SC after a year where they didn't win...it truly squashed all the doubters out there about the Heartbreakers dominance. In other words, had the Heartbreakers stopped here, their dynasty would have still been born. Patty Roy once again was the difference in the finals against the Kilts and Hitmen.

This was also the 1st year that the Kilts were a team to be reckoned with...the old guard, the Tycoons really had a SC Hang over and were killed in the second round by the Kilts 34-22. The Hitmen finally getting their act together made their way to the finals...at the time they were a great young team.

After taking over the gong show in Road Runner ville, the Coyotes made their 2nd appearance in the post season…but they didn't get far. Gone first round though. The Stunners (an SCHL legend) did squat, getting the boot in round 1 as well. The Flash (known then as the Ferrari Flash) made their first ever playoff appearance..gone as well in the 1st round to the Shrubdogs, just too inexperienced.

2003 Playoffs: This was one of the best overall seasons...still my favourite draft at Ashley's house. Linda knows how to put on a great spread. Anyway, this would also be the last draft Tony Roy would make an appearance at and oddly enough his final Snipers Cup ring, becoming the lowest team to date in the WG race to win it all (5th place). Led by Patty Roy and Demitra, the Heartbreakers cementing themselves as the first ever SCHL Dynasty. Not to mention won without an goal man...Bure was injured!

The Kilts again got to the finals, along with the Storm (their second appearance). It was a great final. All three teams battled and in the end the Heartbreakers narrowly beat out the Storm.

Barracudas, in their inaugural season, bounced the Flash in the 1st round, but were to meet the mighty HB and lose. There's a real trend with the same teams appearing here.

2004 Playoffs: Back in 2001, the Flash were a unorganized team. A bit bush league and not very good, they came to the 2001 draft knowing change was needed. The Flash then made three trades securing the 2nd overall pick and 4th overall picks. Going down 3 men in three two for one deals (thank god that's out of the league) to get Kovalchuk and Nabokov...The core was then changed and the Flash, because of those two studs, would hoist the Snipers Cup in 2004.

The Rowdy Kilts, on their way to their 3 straight final, had a monstrous season at 20-1-1 and bounced the Heartbreakers for only the second time in the post season. The Heartbreakers record to that point was 13-1 in the post season and that would be there last post season matchup. The Blitzkrieg, after years of ridicule, finally put all the pieces together for a run...Bert, Big Swede, Luongo made it as the third member of the finals.

These playoffs would be bittersweet; however, everyone knew doomsday was coming with the lockout and this would be the final time we'd see the Hitmen, Storm, Hammerheads, Stunners and the Blitzkrieg. Thank God.

2006 Playoffs: I really don't know how we all made it through the lockout. Think about how much we follow the SCHL and then think how the Christ did we make it through over 365 days of no NHL? Nearly a year and half. It got to the point where I simply forgot about hockey. Nuts.

Back from the lockout we also changed the SCHL playoffs...it still featured 12 teams, but now we had new divisions, bye teams, and most importantly a two team final. And this year it was the Tycoons v the Rowdy Kilts in the finals. The two biggest rivals and two of the most hated teams faced off in the, Battle of Eagle Heights. It was epic alright...you can read the play by play under season review in the history section, but needless to say it was the closest we've ever seen it. The Kilts, in their fourth straight finals finally did it. Brian fucking Gionta!

The Frozen four included the Rowdy Kilts, Tycoons, 79ers and Brahmas. Had the Kilts not knocked out the Brahmas, they would have gone on to win it all...thank god they didn't. It was the Jawas first time back to the post season since season 1!

2007 Playoffs: The 79ers picked up the championship last year...obviously. Joe Sakic when nuts at the end in another dramatic final with none other than the Kilts, the 79ers got the job done. Off the hop the 79ers were up mega, but didn't step on the throat of the competition and the Kilts clawed back...but it wasn't enough. This championship is a controversial one with the addition of Crosby on the 79ers; however, no one can question the great acquisitions in Sakic and Lidstrom which threw the 79ers over the top.

The frozen four features the Tycoons, Rowdy Kilts, 79ers and Gryphons. The Kilts knocked out the Tycoons once more with a late Saturday Brodeur assist and the Tycoons absence of a MM...god damn Pronger, I woulda won too if I had beat the Kilts. In the other semi, the 79ers almost blew another match against the Gryphons, by only winning 42-41…what a thriller right to the end.

This was the 1st time the Coyotes had won a match in the post season, the Jawas made it again for the 2nd straight season. It's still pretty fresh in everyone's mind.

2008 Playoffs: Now a look to this year...I just spent the last 10 minutes talking about the Kilts, Heartbreakers, Tycoons and so on...is this the year we finally see some new blood in the big matches?

The Bullets have risen from the dead and have a bye, but it could be all for not with no goalie.

The Shrubdogs are back in the saddle, poised to make great strides, but do they have the horses to go the distance with a slumping goalie?

What about the Vanguard? For years they've been the fodder for the top teams...can they finally push back and make a stance?

The Gryphons a staple in recent memory have stumbled down the stretch after owning the SCHL for much of the season...unwilling to better their team, they're once again caught up in the perfect storm...are they ready to take home the hardware?

The Brahmas once again will be at the dance; will they make a mark or just become splat on the windshield to a top team?

The Barracudas DNQ last year, but rattled of six straight wins to end the season. Do the they have the horses to the go distance? Price, Richards, Vanek will have to be sharp down the stretch for them to have a shot.

The defending champs? Wow..without Sid, or Lidstrom, Gagne...they'll be more a bye than an opponent.

There's still some uncertainty about who will be the final few spots, but the Assassins have a chance to back up their talk and all their trades, likely won't happen, but the chance it there.

And finally the real contenders: the Flash, Tycoons, Jawas and Kilts. In my opinion the champion will come from one of these 4 teams. They've all got one thing in common; they've got no real weaknesses. All teams start 10 players and 10 good players. They've got the horse power to blow any team of the planet. So, if we see one of these teams falls prior to the Frozen Four, it'll be an upset.

I love the Snipers Cup more than anything. The WG is nice, but there's nothing more exciting then everyone having shot at it all...hoisting it up. The attention from the entire league...the chatter, all eyes on your..that sorta thing. All the hard work, the roster subs, the draft snipes all about translating that into some hardware. Because 5 years from now, no one will care that you scooped so and so in the 4th round, they'll just ask? "Did you win the cup that year then?" "Naw, my goalie got benched and I didn't bother to get a back up so I flushed the season down the toilet... figured next year was a better year to go for it.""

Welcome the Dedrick Devils

I'd like to welcome the SCHL's the newest member, the Dedrick Devils.

You're probably thinking, "How can there be a new member?"Well, I regret to inform you that the Griffiths Riggs have left the SCHL. The Riggs noted lack of time, patience and overall enjoyment as reasons for leaving the pool.

The timing of his departure couldn't be any worse as we wanted to contract to 20 teams only two weeks ago. I figured booting the Express after all of his trades wouldn't be acceptable. So, after considerable analysis, we decided to replace the Riggs with a new GM, rather than wait it out for another GM to leave.

In any event, please help me welcome the newest GM, Steve Dedrick. Steve knows many of the current GMs and has been aware of the SCHL since 1999 back when he worked with a few of us at EA. He knows his hockey, and will be a solid addition to the SCHL.

Welcome.

A New Era has Pulled into the SCHL Station
October 30, 3007 - Today the SCHL is pleased to welcome our newest GM to the family: Derek Day. Derek will be taking over the former Korp franchise under the name, Day Express. Derek is a veteran of dynasty pools as a GM and commissioner of a rival league. Derek has proven he can build a team and make trades with the best of them, now it's time to see how he can perform with the big boys, starting with a team that better resembles table scraps.

The SCHL has full confidence in Derek's GMing abilities and the commitment he will bring to the pool. Derek is fully aware of the nerdiness level of the SCHL and what he's about to embark on. Rumour has it, he has been reading the SCHL MB for sometime and is already aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the league's GM's.

Even though he recognizes his team is in bad shape, Mr. Day is happy to be taking over a team with a future anchor in Turris, along with anther fav in TJ Oshie. The SCHL has also decided that since he won't be receiving two free players from the un-drafted talent pool, he will not be obligated to pay theh $140 entry fee for this season.

Derek can be added to your MSN lists under the email address: nellspot@hotmail.com

Derek, welcome to the SCHL; often imitated, never duplicated; land of the big boys and of Frank.

Kyle Turris Joins a Select Group

September 29, 2007 - With 19 GMs packed into the Horses' home and 3 on MSN, the 2007 SCHL draft was completed today. It was a great draft with Kyle Turris going 1st overall to the Korp. This was possibly the longest in the history of the league. There were block buster deals include Iginla moving to the Bullets, Souray becoming a Tycoon and Hejduk changes addresses to the Brahmas. There was some head scratch picks, such has Backstrom at 7th overall, Gerber to the Brahmas and some snipes, including Cogs and Letang. Overall, it was good fun had by all and another SCHL draft in the books. Check out the '2007 Draft' link on the left for the draft results.

September 10, 2007 - News report came surging from Hamliton earlier this week...it all surrounded the unhappiness of Cory Stillman. He's just plain tired of losing, "I've had enough of the Horses. It's been just over a year now and I'm not getting younger, so I asked to be traded to a team with a chance to win." And he got his wish. Today the Tarpan Horses have shipped Stillman, 70th overall and the 80th overall to the Rowdy Kilts for a 1st rounder in 2008, the 39th overall and 46th overall.

A New Era
I am proud to announce today the new name and logo of our franchise to the Mitchell Vanguard.

Years ago when I entered the pool we named the team the Coyotes simply to counter the old name of the Roadrunners. Well old Rocky and his candy bracelets are long forgotten and I feel our name conjures up more images of the sad NHL franchise there days.

So enter the Vanguard... for those that might not know what a Vanguard is it is pretty much the point of an attack... your leading squadron entering a battle. I had the name for awhile but couldn't find a suitable logo till I found this one of a 40s style bomber pilot (which was created by a fan as a Canuck logo). This logo perfectly suited what a Vanguard is (think Pearl Harbour) plus it had a V in it to boot.

Also to announce we find the Vancouver market is over saturated in the SCHL so we will be moving the team down south to Seattle where we will be building our new arena in the same strip occupied by Safeco and Qwest field and ours will be called the Silo Center.

Cheers,

Griffin Mitchell
Owner & GM

The 79ers swap franchise forwards
August 20, 2007 - The Barracudas and 79ers have hooked up once again for a deal. The 79ers inferior at the GM position have sorted that out today picking up Simon Gagne from the Barracudas. Inexchange the Barracudas get their franchise assistman, Brad Richards.

79ers send: Brad Richards, 44th overall

Barracudas send: Simon Gagne, Bill Guerin & Patrick Eaves.

Toskala gets his shot...
August 16, 2007 - The Triads have traded the 21st pick in the 2007 draft to the Flash in exchange for Toronto Maple Leaf net minder, Vese Toskala. This move gives the Flash some breathing room from protection problems. The Triads inch closer to securing a decent goalie, however Toskala has yet to guarantee himself the #1 job in Toronto.

The Breaking of Tradition
The SCHL has voted, and starting next year assistmen assists will be worth 1.5.  I forget the actual vote totals, but the for 1.5 won by a substantial margin. The rules have changed, so adapt.

September 1st Protection Deadline
Just a reminder that all teams must have their 12 protections posted on the message board by August 31 at 11:59pm.  Failure to do so, means I'll pick your 12 for you or worse!

Your 2007 SCHL Draft Hosts:

Commish's Choice

This year's winner of the Commish's Choice Award goes to Cameron MacKinnon. Cam has been a valued member of the SCHL since day 1, back in 1998. The Jawas have gone through their share of hard times, but are now a formidable force in the SCHL. Cam's insight, power rankings and other additions to SCHL, add to a myriad of reasons why the SCHL is head and shoulders the best dynasty hockey league.

There's a certain equilibrium of drafting, trading, posting, and overall pool awareness that Cam has found.  Other GMs should take notes. So from the SCHL, Thanks Cam!!!!

Frozen Four

17 V 24

Preview:
What else is there to say here when these two vets face off? The Kilts had a big Saturday and sent the Brahmas packing and now the fly into Toronto to face the Tycoons. The Tycoons are without the services again of the assist man and are hobbled by injuries and shortage of man games. The Kits, are also struck with the injury bug and are starting Ballard on forward. The Kilts have owned the Tycoons and will need only a so-so week to move on to the finals to face....

42 V 41

Preview:
....the winner of this match, the 79ers and Gryphons. The 79ers last season sneaked past the Gryphons for 3rd in the WG and are looking to do the same this season. The Gryphons have built their team mainly from great drafting and are looking to cash in and get their name on the hardware. It's top heavy v stacked.

Quarter-Finals

32 V 27

Preview:
Coming off of their first ever post season match and win, the Assassins took the late flight into Toronto to face the Tycoons in the Boardroom. The Tycoons are ice cold, only getting 12 points last. Pronger was perving it up and tripped down the Hotel's staircase drunk and he'll miss the week. The Assassins couldn't have picked a better team to face, the door is open to move into the Frozen Four. Do the cagey Tycoons have the fuel left in the tank?

49 V 34

Preview:
After some spotty weeks, the Flash came out rolling and took care of the Tornadoes by mid-week. Now they'll have their hands full with the 79ers. The 79ers beat the Flash in last year's round one, but now they're a bye and will have a 4 point head start. The 79ers picked a good week to shit the bed with only 17 points last week. If the Flash can continue this hot roll they should have no trouble beating the 79ers, however, if they're not fully rolling Sid only can beat an inconsistent Flash.

39 V 30

Preview:
Gryphons v Griffin: The Coyotes are still buzzing from crazy Saturday that saw them come from behind to knock off the Millionaires for their first ever post season victory. The celebrations will have to wait, however, as the they now enter the barn of the hottest team in the SCHL. The Gryphons have every last player rolling, the only problem who to start on such a deep team. The Gryphons, according to Ryan, have never won a post season match without the use of the head starts. Well they're the team to beat now, but can this hot streak carry into the post season, something that has lacked in Grys Fast.

24 V 35

Preview:
The Kilts/Brahmas faced off last season in a semi-finals match and now it's on again. The Kilts will be hoping that the Brahmas continue their cold streak with an easy victory. The Brahmas are without their GM and some of their top forwards. This will be a defining moment in the Brahmas history..can they step up and get the big win or are they just another speed bump in the road for someone else?

Round 1

33 V 28

Preview:
The Champs oddly enough didn't receive a bye, but have a big 10 point head start of the lethargic Horses. The Horses will most likely be without the services of their AM. The Kilts have been to four straight SCHL final appearances and took home the cup last season. This is the Horses 5th appearance in the post season and have yet to win one playoff match. The Champs will have no trouble dispatching this team.

30 V 35

Preview:
The Coyotes remarkable season continues. After a sluggish start the Coyotes banged out 8-straight wins capturing the Bronze Division (its 1st div title) and making the post season for the 1st time in 4-year and it's 3rd ever appearance. The Coyotes have yet to ever win a round, but they'll enter this week with a 7-point head start on the Millionaires. The Millionaires have been plagued all season long by inconsistency and will need both MM doing well to beat the Coyotes.

41 V 28

Preview:
The 2004 Champs come into the post season slumping, they're 1-3 in their last 4 weeks only averaging 20 points a week. If Kovalchuk can erupt the Flash will have no trouble winning. The Tornadoes make their 2nd straight playoff appearance, last year it was short lived with an early round exit to the Gryphons. The Rangers go three times and the Tornadoes will need them to do well to have any shot at winning.

25 V 37

Preview:
The Jawas are back once again to the post season. After years of misery, they look to be a fixture in the post season. The Assassins make it for the 1st time as well. After such a quality season the Assassins stumble down the stretch and will remain in the Bronze division next season. These to teams have duked it out all season long in the Bronze division, well it's only fitting their squaring off in round 1!!!
