"It was tough to deal Grahame. He's been doing really well for us, but on the bench. Kipper is our man and we wanted Grahme to get some starts in the SCHL. As for Tanabe, it's tough letting him go. We drafted him back in 2000. He was the longest serving current Tycoon. After a monster rookie year he's never amounted to much. In Markov we get another Dman we feel can contribute and yet another Hab! I think it's a deal that helps both teams. My only concern was that the Coyotes are a division foe!"
"All i have to say is its been a disappointing start to the year for me and the fans, and its going to be a god damn goalie carousel here till someone steps up and takes the job. I fully expect John Grahame to do just that for the Coyotes".
The 79ers are extremely excited to move one step closer to their first taste of success in the S.
Steier had this to say "Adding Peter Bondra will put us that much closer to some SCHL glory. Z was a monster on the blue-line but we picked up some good young talent in the draft and we feel that we gain twice as much up front as we lose on the back, ya know? Being able to grab a possible lottery pick in the upcoming draft helps ease the pain of losing a guy like Z"
Team officials will be putting the 37 year old Bondra through some tests this week, his first start will come next week against Gryphons
All Aboard
October 20th - The Cheechoo Train has pulled into The Bay as the Tornadoes and the Regime have hooked up to make a deal. Heading along with Cheechoo is the Regime's 2nd and 4th round picks. Heading back to Denroche-land is Detroit starter Manny Legace, Mark Bell and a 4th rounder.
Week 2 Stats
Oct 16 - The stats are complete.
Again if you see an error please email.
It's Miller Time
October
14th - The Barracudas have sent Ryan Miller to the Brahmas for defenseman
Pavel Kubina. The Brahmas sent Pavel Kubina and a 3rd overall in 2006
for Ryan Miller and a 2nd overall in 2006.
Moran Moment
October 11th - Its rare these days to
be handed the lucky privilege to be in the SCHL, last year Sean Moran was
given a team. He has decided to play along with the SCHL and his first
season is going to diarized here on the SCHL web page. So without
further a due, here is Sean Moran:
This
being the first week for a rookie GM in Assassin history, I have to say its an
unbelievable accomplishment owning a franchise in the SCHL. The team I put
together from the dispersal draft may have had the chance to go for a cup run
in the year of 2005-2006 but that wasn’t good enough. We didn’t feel it was
fair to the other teams to just come into the league with the choice of talent
we had. So being the rookie GM I am, I took it upon myself to do what I could,
to make a team I could really call my own. It all started with a trade
involving Brian McCabe and the 35th overall for the 8th
overall and Mark Parrish from the team that, at one time was called the
Platinum Pros. At the time it seemed like a great move, having 4 other great
Dmen and a wicked offensive structure, but still wasn’t a team I felt was my
own.
Next move was
taking a guy we could have named Captain, and ponding him off for a 3rd
overall pick who was to be named later on as Patrice Bergeron. I myself was
very pleased to have a 20 year old with tones of potential welcomed to my
team. As other GMs in the league would start to call this a “butchering” I
wasn’t done yet. Mats Sundin, the “Big Swede,” a great assist man was the next
victim of the “Assassination.” This also was a tough decision but also a
necessary change to the Assassin franchise. We took the 4th overall
for him which then came the “questionable” Jeff Carter. I have high hopes for
this prospect and will wait on him for a year or two.
Having got rid
of Sundin, the Assassin organization and myself felt it was necessary to go
get another potential “assist man” in Daymond Langkow. I believe he will be a
great leader on the team when in the locker room. He has the voice people can
listen to and respect. Thus leaves my team with the 8
th overall. Now having a 40 year old back stopper was not the most
comforting feeling a GM could have in this league. So with the 8th
Overall we took Calder Trophy winner Andrew Raycroft. With this young, eager,
fast reflexed goalie, we are very comfortable having him as our number one go
to goalie..
I ended up
trading my 30th overall and a 17th overall Crosby draft pick for 23rd overall and 30th overall
Crosby draft pick, which landed me power forward Freddy Modin. If you haven’t
heard of this guy, ask your goalie!
All in all it
went from….
Sundin
Williams Havlat Carter
Modano
Conroy Elias Langkow
Havlat
Parrish Bergeron Modin
Elias
Robitaille TO Conroy Williams
Torres
Parrish
Johnsson
Tverdovski
Timonen
McCabe Johnsson Tverdovsky
Rafalski
Timonen Coburn
Joseph Raycroft
Toivonen
Until the next
Moran Moment, good luck to everyone and behold the Assassin Organization.
Week 1 Complete
Oct
9th - Well it's been a long time since I've done the stats, so go
through your stats to make sure they're correct. That being said I'm
certain they are, but I've made mistakes in the past and with all the new
transactions in the NHL I hope I didn't miss a guy because he was on a
different team. Standings, Leaders..etc are all updated. There
was no doubt who was getting POW for the goalie slot this week.
Roberto Luongo had back-to-back SOs for the first time Tornadoes,
pulling them to the top of the ladder. Glen Murray got the POW
for Skaters and Marc Savardd hammered home 8 points for the Kilts and
picked up the POW for the regular guys!

Premier Previews
ROWDY KILTS (Last Years Record 20-1-1)
Prediction - 15-7/Premiere Division Winner/Wayne Gretzky Champion/Snipers
Cup Finalist
WARNING - TOP 5 CUP-CONTENDER
Best Moneyman Option - Jagr Assists/Hossa Goals
After one of the most dominating seasons in SCHL history, GM Tanner Rattray
has his sights set on yet another solid campaign. Amazingly, in each of the
6 years of his clubs' existance, the team has improved their record almost
every year. 10-13/15-8/15-8/18-4/20-1-1, one of the more unrecognized feats
in all of the league. The chances of that happening again this year are slim
to none, but look for the Rowdies and the newly acquired Jaromir Jagr to
captain this ship to the promiseland.
FORWARDS (A)
- It looks as though Jagr has found his passion for the game again. After a
dominating performance with the Czechs in their Gold Medal championship win,
Big Jags then went on to win the scoring race for Avangard Omsk of the
Russian Superleague. Look for Jagr to hit the 100 point club again and
silence all his critics, he's got that swagger back. Great Assist man over
the years, if not the best.
- In the last 5 years combined, only Milan Hedjuk and Markus Naslund have
more goals than Marian Hossa. One of the best goalmen around, look for this
Rowdy Kilt original to have his best season yet. In Ottawa the minutes were
spread around, this wont be the case in Atlanta at all. Look for Hartley to
play his horse in every phase of the game. A 50 goal, 100 point season could
be acheived if the NHL sticks to their guns.
- Big things are expected from Zetterbeg and Savard this year. GM Tanner
Rattray has faith in these 2, to carry the load in the 3/4 slots. The Puck
detective led the Swedish Elite league in scoring and is poised to carry
that back to the NHL this season. Great news as his partner in crime
Datsyuuk signed, both will be a treat to watch this year. Look for 70-80
points from Ace, a year similar to Dattys the year prior. As for Savard, he
led the league in PPG last year with 52 in 45. If Kovalchuk signs, a Savard
Hossa Kovlachuk line be a very strong possibilty. Look for 70-80 from Savard
as well, IF he stays healthy.
- Allison if healthy should be able to get 60 points....and Walker fills in
great at te 6th slot...look for 60 from him as well. Good guys coming off
the bench too in Huselius and Gionta.
DEFENCE (B+)
- Look for Leetch to QB the Beantown PP with the likes of Bergeron Thornton
and Murray. He has shown no signs of slowing down and another 50 point
season will be accomplished.
- Mattias Ohlund is entering his prime on one of the
highest scoring teams in the NHL. Logging 30 minutes a game without having
to cover Sopels butt on D, will lead to Ohlund producing more offensively
and his first career 40+ pt season.
- With Jagr now the man in Manhattan, look for Potis PP production to
skyrocket. He should be able to reach his old 48 pt form from 2 years ago.
40-45 is more like it.
GOALIE (A+)
- Martin Brodeur, need I say more?
79ERS (Last Years Record 12-9-1)
PREDICTION - 13-7/2nd in Premiere/Snipers Cup Champion
WARNING - TOP 5 CUP-CONTENDER
Best Moneyman Option - Thornton Assists/Richards Goals
"And the winner is....the 79ers." It was simply music to the ears of GM
Ashley Steier. Never before have the 79er fans been so excited for an
upcoming season, and deservingly so. All under contract are the next wave of
NHL greats in Thornton, Richards, and Crosby. Quite possibly the most
valauble trio in SCHL history, look for them to lead the 79ers to a
Sniperscup ring, or two, in the years to come. As for the present, theyre
pretty damn scary as well, a definate Cup Contender.
FORWARDS (A)
- Awesome moneymen with Thorton and Richards. Over the last few years Joe
Thornton has started to play the perimeter rather than crash the crease. In
an effort to save wear and tear on his body over time, Joe has turned into
one of the best assistmen in the league. His year with HC Davos had him
notching 10 goals and 44 assists in 40 games. Look for him to carry that
passing mentality back across seas and into the NHL where it belongs. As for
Richards he wont get you 40 goals, but look for his goal total to
dramatically increase after a brilliant Conne Smythe playoff delivery for
the Lightning. (12 goals 23 games) A career high of 36/37 goals by Richards
should be snagged, as well as his first 100 point season. In my opinion, the
best player on the TB roster without question.
- Sid the Kid should be able to pot home 60-70 points in his rookie year.
After showing some preseason brilliance and jitters, look for Crosby to hit
stride a month or two into the season. From there, anything is possible for
this talent. An exciting year for the 79ers to say the least.
- Kozlov,Cassels and Samsy should all be able to pot 50 points. The wild
card here is definately Sergei Samsonov. If he remains healthy, he has the
ability to pot 70. One of the more underated prospects in the league is
Joffrey Lupul. Slick hands, great shot, and good size are just some of the
attributes this stud will bring to the table. After a decent rookie year in
Anaheim, Lupul is set to shine at the Pond in 2005. 60 points and a breakout
year wouldnt surprise me one bit.
DEFENCE (C+)
- Chara had a breakout year offensively in 2003/2004, but the same wont be
said in '05. In a new NHL where mobility in the back end will be a must,
Chara will have troubles adapting to this new era. A big, slow defensive
defenceman, with limited offensive ability, Charas' numbers will only result
from the minutes he plays. I see a significant drop off here and a 30-35
point season looming.
- Great pickup in the one time 79er cut Mike Van Ryn. After being given a
new chance by 79ers brass, look for Van Ryn to QB Floridas PP and reach the
35-40 pt range for the second straight year.
- The third spot in the 79ers defensive rotation has some question marks.
The key here will be playing the hot player at the right time. Spacek and
Kaberle have shown that they can contribute at times, but getting them to
perform on a regular basis will be a hard task. Boynton will be another
option but he is not signed yet, which isnt great news for te 79ers. Again,
the 79ers will lose some points here for sure.
GOALIE (A)
- Eddy the Eagle is a great goalie, and one of the best in the "S". Many
critics have the Leafs finishing low this year but I dont see it that way at
all. Look for Eddie to do the usual 35 win, 5 shutout performance.
- Great backups in Conklin and Lundqvist as insurance behind the 40 year
old. Conky should be the starter on an improved Edmonton squad, and Weekes
is destined to lose his job in no time. Nice pickups for sure.
MILLIONAIRES (Last Years Record 12-10)
Prediction 13-9/3rd in Premiere/3rd Round Playoff Boot
Best Moneyman Option - Forsberg Assists, Nash goals
WARNING TOP 5 CONTENDER
Great news for the Millionaires as the always threatening Peter Forsberg
plans to stay in the league for at least 2 more years. GM Rick Barret has
assembled quite possibly the best forwards going into a season in SCHL
history.A top heavy squad here, the forwards alone will make them a legitamate
contender. Forsberg,Nash,Iginla, and Alfredsson will steamroll any team in
their path, and with some luck from their D and Goalie, the Millionaires
will be off to the jeweller to size their new rings.
FORWARDS (A+) X2!
- Easily the best crop in the league. Look for Forsberg to dominate at the
assist man position, and Nash to win the Rocket Richard Trophy again. After
leading the league in goals in 2003/04, Nash is now older and more mature,
and poised to take home the hardware. 50 goals will be notched for Nash, and
Forbserg, if healthy, should be able to get 60 assists. A very scary duo
here, probably the best.
- Iginla and Alfredsson are the best 3-4 slots in the league. These guys
would be moneymen on almost every team in the league. Iginla, playing with
Amonte and Langkow should be able to match his 96 point output from a few
years back. As for Alfredsson, his point total may drop now that Spezza and
Heatley will be the men in Ottawa. Look for Alfie to notch 70 in his sleep.
- Bure, and Blake will fill in alright in the 5/6 holes, and Brunette is
decent coming off the bench. Blake could reach career highs as he's set to
start the season on a line with Yashin and Satan. One of the more underated
players in the NHL, look for Jason Blake to get 60 points this year.
DEFENCE (C)
- Sorry Im not the biggest fan of Sandis Ozolinsh. After 16 points in 36
games in 2003/2004, and taking all of last year off, expect Ozo to come out
of the gates like a slug. Niedermeyer will be the man there now, and Burke
will lose patience with all of Ozo's turnovers. Look for Burke to deal Ozo
to clear up cap space within the first 2 months of the season. Wherever he
goes, he should be able to notch 35 points or so. Dont expect anything big
at all.
- Mara enjoyed a great performance in the last year of the NHL. Again, Im
not the biggest fan of this guy though so I'll have to say Gretzkys pet,
Derek Morris will eat up more PP time than Mara this year. Also, look for
Tanabe to breakout as Gretzky will fall in love with his speed and puck
moving ability. I see Mara as the #3 Dman on the Coyotes depth chart now.
30-35 points and nothing more.
- Barker,Klesla and Fisher will fill in at the third slot. Kleslas injured,
Barker will be scratched alot, and Fisher has hands of stone. This
positition will be exploited come playoff time and look for the Tornadoes to
possibly upset this team in the 2nd round.
GOALIE (C)
- Dipietro will have to be the man if the Millionaires want to make some
noise in the playoffs. After Fleury stunk it up yet again in preseason, all
the weight will be on the shoulders on a kid named Rocky.
Although he's a solid goalie, Dipietro will be the victim of Mike Milburys
bonehead moves this offseason. Losing Aucoin as a defensive presence and
picking up Brent Sopel to replace him is mind boggling. If there was a stat
for defensive zone turnovers, the Islanders would have it in the bag by
November. Ninimaa, Sopel, and Zhitnik, with guys like Yashin and Satan on
the backcheck is a recipe for disaster. Simply put, the Isles will stink,
and Rockys numbers will take the hit.
FLASH (Last Years Record 14-8)
Prediction - 13-9/4th in Premiere/2nd Round Playoff Boot
Best Moneyman Option - Gomez Assists/Marleau switch to Kovalchuk Goals
WARNING TOP 5 CONTENDER
Congrats to the Flash and their monster of a season in '04. This year
however, could be a different story, as the most dynamic goal scorer in all
of the "S" is in the middle of a holdout. GM Jon Grossman has spent
countless hours this past week in contract talks trying to lock down his
man. The last I heard was Kovalchuk turning down a 5 year, 30 million offer
from the Flash. If thats the case then they'll have to go with Marleau as
the goalman, which is definately a nice luxury. Their "D" was upgraded
during the draft, and Nabokov is one of the best in the business. If
Kovalchuk signs this team will be right back into the mix, at the top of the
SCHL elite. Its just a matter of time.
FORWARDS (A)
- As said I mentioned earlier Marleau will have to start the year off as
the goalman. Pretty much a lock for 30 goals, Marleau has been finding the
back of the net in preseason and could hit the 40-goal plateau. Easily the
best player on one of the best young teams in the league. Nothing but
great potential here for the Flash. Until Kovalchuk signs, Mar-Mar will do
just fine. As for the assist department the Flash could lose some points
here due to Elias's health. One of the most lethal combos in the league,
Gmez seems to set up Elias at will, year in and year out. It could be a
different story this year however, pending on Elias' return to the lineup.
- Sullivan could be a moneyman on many teams as well. After finding a nice
comfy home in Nashville, the little man is set on establishing some career
highs. This could be Stevie's first 80 point campaign, this guys great.
- Nylander should do well centering Big Jags in Manhattan. A gifted,
playmaking centre, look for the consistant Nylander to pot 55-60 points.
- Easily the snipe of the draft thus far, Ryan Malone beat out John Leclair
and Sid the Kid in training camp, earing him top spot on the first line in
Pittsburgh. A Pittsburgh native, look for Malone to hit 30 goals and 30
assists playing with Mario and Ziggy. The "S" should be ashamed he slipped
all the way down to 38th overall.
- Horcoff and Morrow are fine coming off the bench, look for 45-50 pts.
DEFENCE (C)
- Pretty good D here compared to last year. If used correctly they should
be able to hold their own. Marc Andre Bergeron will have lots of help
playing beside Chris Pronger on the Edmonton PP. Look for a career high of
35 points.
- Paul Martin was another sexy snipe in the draft. With Niedermeyer now in
Anaheim, look for the PM to play alonsgide Brian Rafalski on the NJ PP. 35
points here as well.
- Derek Morris is another solid 35 point guy. Look for the Great One to
fall in love with this kid, as he always does when it comes to Albertans.
Not only is he from Edmtonton, but he's a pretty good player as well. After
a couple years of underachieving, this will be his time to shine. Look for
him to beat out Mara as the Yotes PP QB.
- Backman could be the best offensive Dman on the Blues this year. He
reminds me of Kim Johnsson before he broke out a few years back. Great
pickup and a solid guy cming off the bench. Whitneys a decent prospect so
we'll see how he does in Pittsburgh.
GOALIE (A+)
- One of the best goalies around, and an SCHL Vezina trophy candidate. SJ
is a great team and Nabokov is an even better goalie. Beware of the shutout.
BULLETS (Last years Record 12-10)
Prediction 12-10/5th in Premiere/Wild Card Winner/Demotion to Gold
Best Moneyman Option - Weight Assists/Briere Goals
The Wilson Bullets are the St.Louis Blues of the SCHL, as they make the
playoffs every year but fail to make any noise come postseason. The fans are
getting irate here in Wilson, as management continues to tease their fans by
putting together a solid roster without taking that extra step to put them
over the top. The latest rumour has Paul Kariya being named the teams
goalman over super-stud Danny Briere. A mind-boggling move to say the
least. If thats the case the Bullets will do the usual playoff birth with an
early exit. Some things never change.
FORWARDS (B)
- Doug Weight is one of the best playmakers in the biz, and a personal
favourite of mine dating back to his Edmonton years. He's getting up there
in age, but he should be a lock for 50 assists. Even without Pronger, Al
Mac, and Demitra, Weight should be able to set up Tkachuk on numerous
occasions. Look for his goal output to increase as well as more will lay on
his shoulders with a lack of talent around him. 20 goals and 45-50 assists
sounds right. As for Kariya I dont get this decision at moneyman at all.
Brittle, and not the player he once was, Kariya will be the man behind
Stevie Sullivan in Nashville. With a new NHL though, maybe Lornes thinking
Kariya can elevate his level to years past. 11 goals in 51 games doesnt say
much at all though, I'd go with Briere her no question. Briere will light it
up on, beleive it or not, a pretty damn good team in Buffalo. Briere will
wear the C for the Sabres and play on a line with Vanek and Dumont. All 3
were scorching hot in preseason.
- Hull hasnt stopped putting up solid numbers. Another goal-man candidate
for the Bullets, look for Hullsie to get a ton of PP time under new coach
Wayne Gretzky. He wont have the point total he had in Detroit last year, but
his goals could increase dramatically as he'll be the go to shot on the PP.
30-35 goals and maybe 20 assists in there as well.
- Ryan Smyth, yet another goalman candidate for the Bullets. Look for Smyth
to have a career year now that he has some help on the Edmonton power play.
Pronger should be able to set him up on numerous occasions, as he'll find
the open ice for the breakaway pass. One of the most consistant performers
on Bullet history, I'll say he gets 65-70 points this year.
- Nedved should be able to do alright in the desert with fellow Czech
Ladislav Nagy. With Nedved you dont know what youre getting, its either 40
points or 60. Seeing how he had only 46 last year, this could be his turn at
a good year. 60 points sounds alright if he plays with Nagy.
- Zeuss in Philly is a fun player to have. Phillys a hoot and you have to
love the curly hockey locks. Unfortunately, those hockey locks turn into
goldilocks at times, so we'll see what happens with him in '05. He had a
great year last year and I dont see how cant repeat that as Recchi,Leclair
and Amonte are now gone and off the Philly PP. Zeuss should move up on the
depth chart no question. A repeat 60 points again wouldnt surprise me.
- Great prospect in Cammeleri. A monster of an AHL season so lets see what
he can do in the big leagues for a full year. Anybody who holds the World
Junior record for most goals by a Canadian, should turn out to be something
decent.
DEFENCE (B)
- How about that Bryan Berard, what a story. It looks as though he's
regained his old form before the injury, quite possibly becoming even
better. After a whopping 47 points in only 58 games last year, Berard will
be wheeling and dealing in the new NHL feeding the likes of Nash and Zherdev
with the CBJ. He should be able to crack 50 this year, a great offensive
weapon.
- An X-Goonsniper, Dmitri Kalinin was laughed at when he was drafted back
into the league. I'll have to admit I was was one of the critiics, but I'll
be the first to say now that this kid can become a solid weapom on the back
end. With no real weakness's in his game, look for Kalinin to man the point
for many years to come on the newly reloaded Buffalo PP unit. He owns a
great shot and nice passing skills, and he'll see a ton of ice. So dont be
surprised when he gets 40 points this year. Great patience Lorne.
- I know Tyutin was a great prospect but Im not too confident in him to
contribute right away. He hasnt showed the least bit of offense in his past
2 years with the Wolfpack. On the other hand I love the pick of BC boy Steve
McArthy. Look for the new Canuck to gobble up the points Sopel would have
had this year if he had not been traded. McArthy has always had the talent
but has never really had a true shot to make a presence. The Canucks will
give him that and he will shine. I expect 30 from this kid in his first year
as a Canuck. He looked great in preseason.
GOALIE (A)
- Jose Theodore is one of the best goalies in the league. The Canadiens
should be one of the best teams in the league this year so look for Jose to
notch over 30 wins with lets say, 5 shutouts. The Bullets franchise player
is in the pipes, no question.
- Great insurance in Martin Gerber. Anytime you can snag a starting goalie
at 90th overall you're doing something right. Experienced GM Lorne Wilson
made no mistake and pounced on his prey.
