Millionaires Making a Run
Courtesy of the Barracudas PR Department:
November 9, The Barracudas and the Millionaires have pulled off a whopper!  The deal required almost 30 e-mails and 2 weeks of negotiation between the two hard nosed GMs, but when the dust had settled both teams were left with a roster that they can be very excited about. The deal goes like this:

The Barracudas receive:

Power forward Rick Nash
Wings d-man Jiri Fischer
Minney’s Todd White
What looks to be a late 1st rounder in ‘06

In return the Vancouver Millionaires receive:

One of the best SCHL dmen in Ed Jovanovski
Proven vet Mike Modano
A luxurious 3rd rounder in ‘06
And a spacious 4th rounder ‘07

Barracudas GM, Nathan Bellamy, had this to say: “After three years in the SCHL without a legitimate goal man, The Barracudas are very excited to have finally landed a top quality sniper on their team. Rick will be welcomed with open arms as soon as he has recovered from his minor knee injury. It is also quite possible that Rick will be given the responsibility of goal man THIS season, depending on Billy’s performance.”

Rick Barret could not be reached for comment, but with these new acquisitions the Millionaires are poised to take a serious run at the Snipers Cup. But as it does every year, the success of this team still rests on the shoulders of Forsberg, if he stays healthy, the Millionaires have a very, very good chance of winning this year. It’s that simple.

Week 5 - Stats

Moran Moment
Chapter 2- Hittin' The Ice
October 31st - The highly anticipated first week finally had arrived and I had thought my Assassins were ready as ready could be. With a little luck on our side we faced off against the Regime. Never did I think it was this hard to get some points but man was I in over my head. When this week was over, I was definitely counting my blessings. With only 12 points to sum up the week which sounds like a loss, actually ended up on top of the Regime by 1 frickin point. (as Brian would put it) Reality set in and whatever confidence we had got had flushed down the toilet. No player really stood out. Our captain Patrick Elias was, and, is still recovering from Hep A. I told myself "Things will get better, the boys are just getting use to all this." Raffi Torres, a last minute pick up off waivers was playing down in the minors and managed 4 goals in 2 games. So I end up starting him in week 2, hoping he could produce in the big leagues. Week 1 highlight, getting the first win as a GM.

Week 2 comes around, but there is no sign of Raffi, he must have been off singing his little nursery rhymes to the kids. Or maybe the Grffin Coyote came to life and chased him and Lil Red Riding Hood away. Anyway, apparently the hardcore practices I put the players through seemed to wake up the defensive line. These guys came up with half the teams points, while Razor received 2 wins. Young Bergeron was showing off what he could do for the first half of the week notching 2goals and 2 assists. MM Langkow was still in hibernation and Havlat was nowhere to be found either. Once again, if it wasn't for the Coyotes not being in tip-top form, it could have been us losing 25-17. Week 2 highlight, seeing my goalie walk away with 3 wins.

Week 3 arrives and we were playing without GM Martin Havlat as he decided to kick Hal Gil in the nuts (see kicking motion in the picture on the right) and had to serve a 5 game suspension. Being down a man we knew we were in tough. I relied on Daymond Lankow to step up to the plate being AM and all, but he bombed big time. Conroy was the only one producing and kept the team in close range with the Tycoons. It remained relatively close at 10-13 (Tycoons) approaching the weekend but all my boys fell asleep and came up with 2 points on our last two days. The Tycoons took advantage of the circus my team was putting on and walked away with a 21-12 victory. Week 3 highlights, Conroy regular player of the week award.

Week 4. At this point we knew we lucked out and now its time to get serious. The club was embarrassed and we were looking for redemption. Torres was sent back down to the farm while Parrish came in for him and Williams came in for Havlat (suspension). Well, Game Time is here and what do you know, Parrish is out with a wrist injury and doesn't play a game all week. Things look better as we take a 10-5 lead half way through Wednesday night just to later on find out Razor goes down and will miss the rest of the week. The Jawas capitalize on this mishap and score 10 points to take the lead 15-10. Well I was not feeling great about this situation being down a forward and now no goalie, I thought it was bad enough I had no GM going. When it rains, it pours. All the screaming and threats I laid out to my players to do something or face nasty repercussions definitely woke the bear out of hibernation in Langkow as he finally started to live up to his AM status notching in a much needed 3 assists. With contributions coming from everybody to make up for a loss of bodies we came to the weekend ahead 22-20. The group never let up and went on to win 29-22 for a record of 3-1. Week 4 highlights, Watching Langkow step up to the plate with 8 SCHL pts.

Thanks for your time once again on this Moran Moment, Life as a Rookie GM. Tip of the month. Keep those training facilities up to par or your player production will go down the drain far.
